The Evolution of the Coming Out Story

June 26 | 18:00 - 21:00

“Coming out” is a lifelong journey of understanding, acknowledging and sharing one’s gender identity and/or sexual orientation with others. It may be quick and easy for some, or longer and more difficult for others. No process is ever the same, yet, it is the uniqueness of every single coming out story that makes it such a truly learning and rewarding experience for so many people, in so many ways.

For many in the LGBTQIA+ community though, there are many physical and real life barriers in the process of coming out offline, and so, in the age of the internet and social media, many choose to learn and interact with their truths online.

From “Facebook Official” to Youtube sensationalism, from moving true stories, to funny anecdotal stories, social media has brought stories of many people, from LGBTQIA+ communities around the world, who were often voiceless – into the forefront of mainstream media.

Join us, as we explore just a few shorts, documentaries and Youtube videos, that help us learn more about the process of coming out, and the content available that helps people know that they are not alone in this world.
