Yes please, share your wisdom with me!
Have you missed your monthly dose of gaming and popular culture wisdom delivered by some of the industry’s experts? Fear not! We are bringing the Arcade Talks online so that you can watch us from anywhere on the planet!
This month, we will be having a double feature on gaming, queerness and sexuality.
In the first part, we will be hosting Niki Haringsma, an artist, researcher and published author interested in how queer people recognise themselves playing video games.
During his talk, Niki will answer the following questions: Do avatars relate to our transgender bodies? Can attribute sliders help us explore being gay, non-binary, asexual, intersex? When we control a character throughout a game’s story, how do we relate when a hero suddenly learns about their deep, dark, secret identity?
In the second part, Charlotte Courtois will take over. Charlotte is a PhD Candidate at the University of Montreal. She will offer us a quick look at some erotic/sexual/porn games, by introducing several party games from 80s computers that include queer perspectives/narratives.
She’ll be presenting mainly Amiga and Commodore 64 games, seizing the opportunity to take a sneak peek into the world of long-forgotten sexually-themed games for obsolete personal computers.
After both presentations, you will get a chance to ask both speakers questions and participate in our gamified networking session. As you can see, during our talks, we focus on gaming from a wide arrange of perspectives.
ATTENTION: This is an 18+ event!
